This is a pretty simple simple dish with minimal ingredients that I learnt from my father. This can be served as a side with both rice and roti. (Serves 3)

Recipe:

  1. Boil one large potato and cut it into small cubes.

  2. Purée three large tomatoes in a mixture grinder and set aside.

  3. Heat some oil in a pressure cooker and add mustard and cumin seeds.

  4. Add the tomato purée, and cook for 5 minutes.

  5. Add half a spoon on salt, one spoon of corriander powder, one and half spoons of chilli powder, and quarter spoon of turmeric powder and cook for a couple of more minutes.

  6. Then add the potatoes, mix well and cook for 5 minutes.

  7. Adjust salt to suit your palate.

  8. Seal the lid of the cooker and cook the gravy for one whistle.

  9. Just before serving, garnish with finely chopped corriander. (optional)

Note:

This dish doesn't use onion or garlic, and thus can be cooked even during festive days.
