This is one of the easy yet tasty recipes out there. I have not used any dry spices in this recipe. Can be eaten with both rice and roti. (Serves 4)
Recipe:
Wash about 250g of toor/arhar dal (pigeon pea) to ensure there is no dirt.
Add a pinch of turmeric powder and 2.5 cups of water, and cook the dal in a pressure cooker for 4-5 whistles.
Meanwhile, chop 2 medium sized tomatoes and 1 large onion and 2 green chillies.
Once you are able to open the cooker, heat oil in a pan and add mustard and cumin seeds.
Add the onion and green chillies and sauté until the onion turn golden brown. Then add the tomatoes and cook for 5 minutes.
Add salt, red chilli powder and garam masala and cook until the raw flavour is lost.
Add 2 cups of water and add the cooked dal and mix well.
Note:
You can add ginger garlic paste or minced garlic after adding the onions. You can also garnish it with corriander, if available.
