Aloo Bonda

Craving for some salty and spicy snack but not able to go out due to the lockdown? I have got you covered. Check out this recipe that can be even served with the evening tea.


Recipe:

  1. Boil 3 large potatoes and mash them.

  2. Finely chop 1 large onion and 3 or 4 green chillies, chiffonade a handful of curry leaves, and mince a 1-inch piece of ginger.

  3. Heat some oil in a pan, and add a spoon of mustard, cumin seeds and skinless black lentil (Urad dal).

  4. Once the dal turns golden brown, add the ginger and green chillies sauté for 30 seconds.

  5. Then add the onions and curry leaves, and sauté until the onions turn golden brown.

  6. Add a spoon of turmeric powder, half a spoon of corriander powder and 1.5 spoons of salt, and mix them well.

  7. Then add the mashed potatoes and cook for 5 minutes in low heat.

  8. Turn off the heat and allow it to cool.

  9. In a bowl take equal portions of rice flour and gram flour (besan), and add salt, chilli powder and turmeric powder. Add small amounts of water in succession and make a thick batter.

  10. Makes balls out of the masala when they have sufficiently cooled.

  11. Heat cooking oil in a pan for deep frying.

  12. When the oil is sufficiently hot, dip the balls in the batter and deep fry them.
